I Just purchased a Romanian AK from my local gun shop. The owner told me it was an SAR-1. When I brought it home I read on the side it was a WASR-10. It's new 2003 production and takes the larger stacked mags. A ten and thirty stacked mag came with it. The owner told me it was the same gun and for the life of me it seems to be. Is there any difference? Did this rifle start out a WASR-10 which didn't take high cap mags that was converted? It came from Century Int.

Posts: 2 (05/26/03 04:50:51) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The WASR 10 was converted for larger double stack mags by widening the mag opening. However, that wasn't the only change. To be imported it had to contain the famed 5 U.S. parts, (the FCS, piston, and handguard), the same ones as in the other SAR 1. The only noticable difference is that it does not have the dimples on each side of the mag opening to hold the mags tight. Instead, there are two plates welded to each side (inside) the mag openings. Last difference is that the end of your barrel has a slightly smaller diameter then the SAR 1. If you want to add a break the weld on the end nut and barrel nut have to be cut and slid off and a break welded on. On the SAR 1 the barrel is a little thicker and it can be treaded so you could screw on a break. But considering that fact that you are not suppose to thread the barrel (AFT rules) welding or soldering ( which the AFT considers not permanent) is not a bad option since the weld or solder can be broken and the break removed which then makes a legal attachment.
