I recently purchased my first assault rifle: a Romanian AK-47. I believe it is the WUM-1 model. Anyway, I purchased it because I have always wanted an AK, and I didnt have much money to spend. I have been checking AK-47 websites and there seems to be a controversy in the quality of AK-47's made in Romania. I was wondering what you guys think about them. The one I bought is supposed to be brand new, but then I have heard of used ones being sold as new. Is there a way that I can tell if the rifle is new or used? Are there any preliminary steps I should take in preping the rifle before firing it for the first time? I would apprietiate any input/advice given. Thanks, Mike.

Posts: 30 (06/03/01 21:01:50) Moderator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The quality of all AK's are good(they will go bang under any condition) Some of the Romanians have canted front sights. This is due to the Chimps at Century who assemble them. If you bought your gun new, then it is new. It was assebled using new Romanian and US parts. Before using swab the barrel, and dissamble the gun and clean with WD-40. Don't be alarmed when it smokes the first few times you shoot it. This is caused by the cosmoline burning off. An AK gets hot pretty quick, but I don't worry about it. These guns were made to function under the most adverse conditions. Have fun and remember like a potato chip, you can't have just one.

I also have been looking to buy my first AK, and saw the Romanian 47's and 74's pretty cheap.(349.00 379.00) Is this a good price(new), if you know where they are cheaper, let me know! Glad to hear they are good quality. I may have to get one of each!!!

It came with original cleaning kit, manual, sling, 1-10 rd clip, 2-30 rd clips, and 1-40 rd clip. I spruced it up with flash hider, scabbard bayonet (cant use with sling attached), choate type dragunov stock and foregrip, bipod, see thru weaver style scope mount with a 6x32 tactical scope, and an excellent deal on 10-30 rd waffle mags for $150.00 and 1000 rounds of russian ammo for $60!!! After all was bought and shipped I paid a total of $629.50. All I can say, my friends is WWW.GUNBROKER.COM !!! Gun auctions are the only way to go. So far never had a jam on my SAR-1 but accuracy isn't what I hoped it would be, any suggestions for increased accuracy?

I bought a single-stack Romanian WASR-10 about a month ago for $200 -- new in the box. It came with one 5-rd. mag and one 10-rd. mag. It was missing the little toolkit that fits in the butt stock, but my dealer gave me one free. Fit and finish is excellent for an AK, IMHO, and it is EXTREMELY accurate!!! Even my poor, tired old eyes can make sub-2-inch groups at 50 yards all day with the open sights. I plan to add a scope soon. I now wish I had spent the extra $$$ and purchased the double-stack version, but I've been told it can be converted if I replace some of the internal parts with US-made components. Is this really true? At first I didn't mind being limited to 10 rounds, especially since I purchased a boat-load of extra mags for $5.99 each (the dealer screwed up -- they were supposed to sell for $15.99 each!!!) The only complaint I have is the pistol grip. God-awful and butt-ugly and almost orange. I'm awaiting delivery of a black neoprene replacement. I love this gun so much I may never shoot my Ruger Mini-14 again! Great site/forum here! Regards, Allen

It sure does fit them, maybe mines is converted by the dealer somehow?..hmmm I will shoot it this week to find out...Thank you and have a nice day!
